President Muhammadu Buhari has again faulted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly mismanaging the nation’s resources. He stated this at a meeting with a select group of South East leaders on Friday at the State House in Abuja. The President believes that although the forthcoming elections should not be a do or die affair, he will never support the opposition party to rule the country. “Let anybody lead this country but not the PDP,” he was quoted as saying in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu. Kogi West senatorial district representative, Senator Dino Melaye, has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, have plans to use the N60 billion approved to support rice industry, for the 2019 election campaigns. The Federal Government had yesterday approved the N60 billion subsidy to support the rice industry in the country. Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbe, disclosed this to State House correspondents after a meeting of the National Food Security Council presided over by President Buhari in Abuja on Friday. The minister explained that the purpose of the subsidy is to help bring down the price of the commodity in the country. But in reaction to the development, Melaye vowed to monitor how the fund will be spent. The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 20th November 2018 as public holiday to mark the Eid-El Maulud celebration. This was made known by the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen (rtd) Abdulrahman Dambazau who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government. In a statement signed by the permanent secretary Dr. M.B Umar, he urged all Muslim faithful to align themselves with the prophet’s teachings which border on piety, charity, tolerance and peaceful co-existence, among others. While calling on all Nigerians to uphold these virtues, with a view to overcoming the current national challenges facing the country, Gen. Dambazau assured that the Federal Government remains committed to the unity of the country and as such, will put adequate structures on ground towards ensuring that the forthcoming general elections are credible, free and fair.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar , says he will sell the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and retain just 10 per cent of the company for the Federal Government. Atiku said this in an interview with The African Report , a monthly publication. Atiku, who presided over the National Council on Privatisation during his tenure as vice-president, said the NNPC was supposed to have become more profitable by now . On whether he would sell NNPC and keep 10 per cent shares for the government , he said, “Yes , I would want to go ahead . There is no doubt about that. Governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai of Kaduna state has stated that a monthly amount of N3.5 million was not entirely spent on feeding the detained leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky as claimed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed. The Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, was recorded in a video that went viral, claiming that the government spends N3.5m monthly on El-Zakzaky’s feeding. However, speaking while hosting the management of media outfit in Kaduna, El-Rufai explained how the Nigerian government spends about N3.5 million on a monthly basis to cater for El-Zakzaky since December 2015. He explained that the Information minister’s claim was right but lacked details on how the money was being spent.
